Happy Harbor Comics is proud to offer their Artist-in-Residence Program, an initiative designed to help local artists supplement their income and provide them with a unique environment to hone their craft and skills while allowing them to interact with the community, exposing and promoting the art and process of comic creation.

It's time to apply for the next term of our Artist-in-Residence position. We will begin accepting applications March 1 with a submission deadline of April 5, 2017. Reviews and judging will occur between April 7 to 20 and the selected candidate will be announced on Friday, April 21. The next AiR term will begin Friday, May 5 or May 12, 2017 and will end Saturday, December 9 or 16, 2017. Please review the Guidelines and Application rules below.

April 15, 2015 : Happy Harbor offers congratulations to our next Artist-in-Residence, PERRY PARKER. Perry will be in-store every Friday and Saturday beginning May 8 for 32 weeks (finishing his term December 19, 2015). Please stop by to visit, check out his work, and ask questions on comic creation!
August 18, 2014 : We would like to congratulate DANIEL HACKBORN in becoming HH's new Comics Artist-in-Residence! Daniel's term will begin Friday, September 05, 2014 and run for 32 weeks until April 25, 2015. Please come by and greet him when his term begins!
December 15, 2013 : We are proud to announce, after a very close decision, our new Aritist-in-Residence, ANDREW JACKSON OBOL. His term will begin January 3 and run for 32 weeks, and he's very excited to be a part of this program. We're equally excited to have him on board!
April 15, 2013 : Happy Harbor is proud to announce our next Artist-in-Residence JEFF MARTIN, a local web-cartoonist. Jeff will be hard at work drawing comic pages every Friday and Saturday beginning in May 3 for 32 weeks, ending December 8, 2013. Come by and welcome him to the Harbor!
August 24, 2012 : Happy Harbor is proud to announce our next Artist-in-Residence KYLE CHARLES, a recent graduate of the Guru Digital Arts School here in Edmonton. Kyle will be behind the artists' desk every Friday and Saturday beginning August 31 until April 7, 2013 (32 weeks).
April 29, 2012 : Happy Harbor has awarded Paul a second term as our Artist-in-Residence. His term will continue from May 4 for another sixteen weeks.
December 16, 2011 : Congratulations to PAUL LAVALLEE, Happy Harbor's newest AiR. He begins Friday, January 6 and will be in the shop each Friday and Saturday for the next 16 weeks. We're looking forward to watching Paul create some amazing art while inspiring and assisting local up-and-coming talent!
August 15, 2011 : Congratulations again to DANIEL SCHNEIDER, our first AiR. We have evaluated the results of his work during his first term and have allowed him to exercise his option of renewal for a second term. His work has scored him try-outs for Marvel Comics and Archie, and he has been a wonderful ambassador for the medium.
May 12, 2011 : Congratulations to DANIEL SCHNEIDER, our first AiR. He begins Friday, May 13 for a 16 week term.

The guidelines for the program are as follows:
Applicants must provide curriculum vitae that should not exceed two (2) sheets of standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
Applicants should provide a statement of the objectives they hope to achieve as Happy Harbor's Artist-in-Residence. Please itemize the work(s) being focused on.
Applicants should also provide a statement of their personal career goals and how this position would help them accomplish those goals.
Applicants should include:
- List of recent community work, especially that which applies to your craft. Please make sure to include contact information for reference.
- five (5) digital samples of work, three (3) pages of which must be of sequential work.
- one (1) letter of reference/recommendation, preferably from someone in the visual arts field.
The successful application will be selected by a committee of individuals who are not in the employ of Happy Harbor Comics and will remain anonymous to the public and the applicants.
