HEROIC Tasting! in support of Valour Place
Saturday, November 7
6:30pm - 9:00pm

It’s time again for the latest in Happy Harbor Comics’ series of Charity Scotch Tasting and Auction Events!

Happy Harbor Comics, Edmonton’s largest and only award-winning comics retailer, strives to play an active role our community. Our Scotch Tasting events play a significant part in that initiative by raising funds and support for local organizations and important causes.
And every Scotch Tasting event also includes a twist - something to entice veteran tasters and welcome newcomers. This time around the theme is...

One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One beer.

As the title suggests, we’re paying homage to George Thorogood’s (via John Lee Hooker’s) recipe for a good time at our upcoming Scotch Tasting event, but we’re upping the ante, uniting 3 Bourbon, 3 Scotch, and 3 Beer!

Each Beer will be paired with 6 different whiskys: 3 premium Bourbons - traditional, wheat, and high rye - and 3 Scotch - bourbon barrel aged, sherry aged, and peated.
If you’re any good at math, that comes out to 18 different whisky-beer combinations! What will be the perfect pairing?

On the Block

Among the items generously donated by local businesses and organizations, we will be auctioning tickets to major upcoming shows at the Citadel Theatre and the Winspear Centre, as well as hand selected quality goods from Sherbrooke Liquor and passes to Metro Cinema society's unique film fare. And those are only a sampling of the kinds of items you can expect on the block.

Super Collector Cards

As if the refreshments, company, and auction weren't enough, we are continuing our collector card series with the third installment of one-of-a-kind "Super" Scotch Tasting cards designed and illustrated by local artists Dan Schneider and Tracey Risser and available only to attendees of the event.

Malt Troll Bonus!

Edmonton’s resident Scotch blogging expert, the Malt Troll (malttroll.blogspot.ca), has donated a bottle of rare old Bruichladdich Octomore, the most peated Scotch in the world, to try at this tasting.

Good drinks, good people, and fundraising for a good cause? It doesn’t get any better than that.

Supporting Valour Place

Our upcoming event will support Valour Place Military Family Support House, a temporary home for all Canadian Forces members, Families of the Fallen, Veterans, and RCMP, along with their families who require medical treatment in Edmonton and live outside the city/area. Valour Place is sustained through long term leases, endowment income, donations, and special events like ours.

We’ve been hosting these charity events for 5 years and they continue to grow, combining a tasting of premier scotch selections hosted by local scotch experts with an auction of unique items generously donated by local businesses and organizations. Cash, debit, and credit payments are accepted and cash back options are available during the event, so there’s no need to hold back with your bids! 100% of all Auction proceeds go directly to Valour Place, as well as 80% of ticket sales. Our previous fundraising events have raised more than $30,000 in support of Cancer Research and STARS Air Ambulance.
